Faulkner Enterprises, LLC has supplied the construction industry with quality materials for nearly 60 years.
Beginning in 1949 as Elmer Faulkner and Sons, the company was started by Elmer Faulkner, Sr. with his sons, Elmer Faulkner Jr, and Sidney. Ten years later, with the retirement of their father, the company became Faulkner Brothers. Elmer said that both he and his brother always loved this type of work because it was just so interesting. Now, Elmer and Sidney maintain the family business as Faulkner Enterprises and insist that it is still just as interesting.
The company began in the excavating business in 1949 and over the years built many roads deep into the Maine woods for such paper industry giants as St. Regis Paper, Diamond International, and Dead River. During this time, the company acquired timberland and supplied quality timber to the lumber and paper industry.
Commenting on his father’s 1950’s era equipment, Faulkner said, “Who would have ever thought then, we would have trucks and equipment the size we have today. My father couldn’t have imagined it.”
Expanding from building woods roads; the company began contracting work from the State of Maine, the towns of Weston and Danforth, as well as supplying materials to other large construction companies such as Lane Construction Corporation and Steelstone Industries.
Along with the timberland, the company bought sand and gravel pits, and rock quarries as well. The most recent pit, dubbed the Big Pit, opened in 1997 in Weston, Maine. This pit is located about 1 mile out of Danforth on the Danforth to Bancroft Road and can be seen from US Route 1.
